Google listing score

  • Looks good
    Business category

Without the right category, Google may not show you when people search for your type of business.

  • Looks good
    Opening hours

Customers who can't see your hours often phone someone who shows they're open.

  • Could be stronger
    Photos

Listings with few photos can look less established next to ones with many.

  • Looks good
    Website link

People who find you have somewhere to see your work before they decide.

  • Missing
    Replies to reviews

Unanswered reviews may tell new customers no one is listening.

This is an example. It scores how complete and competitive a listing looks. It does not measure where the listing appears on Google.

What each check means

Eleven checks, in plain words.

What each one is and why it may matter to the people searching. Plus what you can do about it yourself.

  • From Google, 10 points

    Business category

The type of business Google thinks you are. Without the right one, Google may not show you when people search for your type of business. Choose the category that matches your main service, not the widest one.

  • From Google, 10 points

    Opening hours

When you are open, including public holidays. Customers who cannot see your hours often phone someone who shows they are open. Add your hours and update them before a long weekend.

  • From Google, 8 points

    Phone number

The number people tap to call you. On a phone, no number often means a tap on the next listing. Add the number you actually answer.

  • From Google, 12 points

    Website link

The link to your site. People who find you have somewhere to see your work before they decide. Link the page that explains what you do, not just the front page.

  • From Google, 10 points

    Photos

Pictures of your place, your work and your team. Listings with few photos can look less established next to ones with many. Add real photos of your own, ten or more.

  • From Google, 15 points

    Number of reviews

How many reviews you have compared with similar businesses in your town. People comparing options tend to pick the busier-looking business. Ask every customer, the same way, for honest feedback.

  • From Google, 10 points

    Star rating

Your average rating, compared with similar businesses in your town. It is only one part of the picture, so a rating alone never decides the score. Reply to reviews and fix what customers keep mentioning.

  • Your answer, 8 points

    Replies to reviews

Whether you answer the reviews you receive. Unanswered reviews may tell new customers no one is listening. A short, polite reply to each one is enough.

  • Your answer, 6 points

    Recent updates

Whether you have posted an update lately, such as an offer or a seasonal change. A listing with recent activity looks looked after. One short update a month is plenty.

  • Your answer, 5 points

    Description

A short text saying what you do and where. A clear description helps people and Google understand your business. Say what you do, for whom and where, in plain words.

  • Your answer, 6 points

    Asking for reviews

Whether you ask your customers for a review. Reviews are the part only you can start. Send one neutral request to every customer, and never offer anything in return.

Honest limits

What the score is, and is not.

  • It does not measure position

Google does not share where a listing appears for each search, so no tool can measure it for you. The score shows how complete and competitive your listing looks.

  • It uses public information

What Google shows about your listing, plus a few questions only you can answer. Reviews and rating are compared with similar businesses in your town, never with one named business.

  • It never promises a result

Fixing an item may help people choose you. We never promise a position or a number of customers.
