What we collect
We do not ask for sensitive personal information such as identity numbers or health information unless a specific service truly needs it, and then only with your clear consent.
- Your contact details: name, phone number (including WhatsApp) and email address.
- Business details you share with us: the business name, type, town and what you want from your site or listing.
- Our conversations: WhatsApp messages, emails and anything you type into a form.
- The free Google listing score: the business name and town you type, the listing you choose, your answers and your result. If you ask for the report or for us to contact you, also your name and email and a record of your consent, with the date and time. We keep only Google's place ID for the listing, not Google's other information about it.
- The site map tool: your answers about your business and the map they produce, and, if you choose to send it, your name, WhatsApp number and optional email; or, if you ask for a copy, your email and the map. A record of your consent, with the date and time. We email you the map as a PDF if you ask us to.
- The Google listing Setup onboarding form: the details we need to set up your listing.
- Payments: made through Yoco. We do not see or store your card number.
- How you use our website, through the analytics tools described below.
Why we use it
We do not send unsolicited marketing, we do not add you to a mailing list without your consent and we do not sell or rent your information.
- To answer your enquiry and give you a quote or a recommendation.
- To deliver what you have bought and keep you updated.
- To show you your free Google listing score and, if you ask for it, to email you the report and contact you about it.
- To send you your site map (as a PDF, if you ask for a copy) and, if you chose to send it to Julius, to contact you about it.
- To send invoices and receive payments.
- To keep the records the law requires.
- To understand how people use our website so that we can improve it.
Our grounds under POPIA
- Contract: we need your details to provide what you ask for.
- Our legitimate interest: answering enquiries and keeping business records.
- Legal duty: keeping records as tax and business law require.
- Your consent: sending your score by email and any analytics that use cookies. You may withdraw your consent at any time.
Analytics and cookies
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to see how visitors use our website: which pages they read and where they get stuck. Clarity can record how a page is used, such as clicks and scrolling. It hides what people type into forms. We also use Google Search Console, which gives us combined information about searches that lead to our site and not information about individual visitors.
These tools use cookies. We switch them on only after you accept them in the cookie notice, and you can change your mind at any time. If you refuse, the site works the same and the tools stay off.
We use Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity only after you accept the cookie notice.
Who else sees it
We share information only with the services that help us serve you, and only as far as they need it:
- Yoco, to take your payment.
- Google, for the listing lookup in our free score. Google also provides Analytics, Search Console and our email and calendar.
- Microsoft, for Clarity.
- Meta, because WhatsApp carries our conversations.
- Our hosting and email providers, who handle information on our behalf.
Outside South Africa
Some of these services process information on servers outside South Africa. We choose providers with strong privacy commitments. If you want to know where your information goes, ask us.
How long we keep it
- Enquiries that do not become a project: up to 12 months.
- Free score records: up to 12 months, unless you become a client.
- Clients: for as long as we work together and a reasonable time after, and for as long as tax and business law require us to keep financial records.
- Analytics: for the period set in each tool.
Keeping it safe
We keep your information behind passwords and limit who can see it. Our website uses a secure connection. No system is perfectly safe, so if something goes wrong that affects you we will tell you and the Information Regulator as the law requires.
Your rights
You may ask us to show you the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it or to stop using it. You may also object to how we use it or withdraw a consent you gave. Email julius@craftconnectsa.co.za and tell us what you need.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator at inforegulator.org.za or POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za, phone 010 023 5200.
Children
Our services are for businesses and we do not knowingly collect information about children.
